Animations defined as: The art or process of making movies with drawings, computer graphics, or photographs of static objects, including all techniques other than the continuous filming of live-action images. I like to define animations as: Artwork that has a heartbeat and loves to dance.
In the past animations were only seen on a limited basis on Saturday morning cartoons or when a rare full length movie feature was released. Now with new technology we see them everywhere! Animations are used in commercials, on websites, cartoons, movies, build boards and you will even see animations used in company logo branding.
Now days anyone can purchase a computer and install some software and boom, an animator is born all within a couple of hours! Most people I talk to think you need to be a great artist to to create fun and interesting animations, you don’t! Enjoy an example of a fun animation that I’ve recently found.
If you are interested in creating your own animations, here is a list of some of the software you may want to invest: Adobe After Effects, Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Toon Boom, Premiere Pro and 3D Max.
My advise is to start small, learn as much as you can and take multiple software tutorials. Think of a short animation project, story board it, be ready to adjust your idea throughout the creation process, don’t forget the audio and lastly have fun, show your sense of humor and share your work!
Here a few animations that I recently created. Be sure to give me your feedback and check back later to view new animations! Enjoy.
